The QLands Story

QLands is the company behind FormShare, the most advanced data and analytics platform for mobile data collection and management, and the first XForms-based platform to offer native iOS support alongside Android. Since 2007, QLands has helped organizations in agriculture, global health, humanitarian response, corporate sustainability reporting, and research turn field data into clean, validated datasets that reflect field realities, so programs can make decisions with real impact.

FormShare is built around programs and projects rather than individual forms or seats, reflecting how complex operations actually scale. It's priced on data volume, so organizations pay for what they use, freeing up more of their budget for frontline work. Rather than locking analysis behind a central team or a vendor, FormShare puts data directly in the hands of the people running the program, so teams can analyze it against their own goals, on their own terms. It's now offered as a Software-as-a-Service platform, with QLands based in the United States and rooted in Nairobi, Kenya, where FormShare was first built.

2007Carlos Quiros founds QLands

Carlos Quiros founds QLands Technology Consultants as a personal venture, incorporating in Costa Rica while based in Nairobi, Kenya, and providing data management consulting to agriculture and development programs.

2010–2018Building data systems at ILRI

Carlos works full-time as a digital developer at the International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI) in Nairobi, building and maintaining data systems for agricultural research programs. Working in an organization with researchers all over the world, he sees the need for an integrated system that centralizes field data as a single source of truth, avoiding the data silos that limit long-term analytics, monitoring, and evaluation.

2018FormShare is created

Drawing on what he learned at ILRI, Carlos creates the FormShare platform: a purpose-built system bringing standardized forms, validation rules, and centralized data structures into one place.

2020IPAS becomes the first platform user

IPAS becomes FormShare's first official platform user, adopting the system for field data collection and monitoring.

2021–2023Adopted by NGOs & research institutions

FormShare is adopted by additional international NGOs and research institutions for monitoring, evaluation, and field analytics.

2024Morris Mwaka joins as Product Manager

Morris Mwaka joins QLands as FormShare Product Manager. Based in Uganda, he expands operations and impact across East Africa.

2025Dr. Katie Tavenner becomes CEO; QLands Software Inc. incorporated

Former ILRI colleague and social scientist Dr. Katie Tavenner becomes COO for QLands, growing QLands' revenue significantly within five months. To lead QLands' transition from a services-based consultancy to a scalable product business, she becomes Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer as the company incorporates QLands Software Inc. in the United States.

2026FormShare launches as SaaS, with native iOS + Android collection

FormShare is offered as Software-as-a-Service, enabling organizations to adopt the platform independently and deploy it across countries and programs. FormShare Collect launches on the Google Play and Apple App stores, making FormShare the only XForms-based platform offering native iOS data collection alongside Android.

Today and ahead

Beyond FormShare, QLands is building for the hardest data environments left unsolved: places with no connectivity at all. In 2027, QLands plans to bring FormShare to remote communities, letting them collect and make decisions from their own data even where mobile networks never reach. FormShare will put data ownership and decision power in the hands of the people generating it.

Vision

A world where data collected on the ground can reliably inform the decisions that matter most.

Mission

To help organizations ensure frontline data can be used, shared, and trusted across programs, systems, and decisions.
